Sierra Hotel Railway, Inc., is a member of the American Association of Private Railroad Car Owners, Inc.
Typically, SIERRA HOTEL Railway Inc. enters into an agreement with Amtrak® to pull the car on an Amtrak® train. Our operation is independent of Amtrak®, whose responsibility is limited to hauling the car.

General Information

The SIERRA HOTEL has four bedrooms with sleeping accommodations for eight guests, which is the limiting number of overnight charters. With another sleeping car, such as Puget Sound, or for daytime use not requiring sleeping accommodations the maximum number of guests is 16. By special advance arrangement, this may be increased to an absolute maximum of 20. Basic crew staffing consists of a chef and a steward for eight people or less. If 24 hour service is desired or if the number of guests exceeds eight, an additional crew member will be required. Another crew member will be added when there are more than 12 passengers.

The upper level Vista Dome is designed for a normal maximum of twelve diners, by advance special arrangement as many as sixteen may dine upstairs. All meals are prepared on-board in the galley kitchen. Also on the lower level is a stand up bar and a small table for four. The spacious main lounge has seating for 12.

Luggage space aboard the car is limited. Towels, soap and hair dryer are provided on-board. With all the bedrooms occupied the car can comfortably accommodate up to 12 pieces of luggage that will fit under an airline seat, four cosmetic cases, and four hang-up bags. In addition one additional bag can be stored in the overhead storage areas of bedrooms No. 2 and No. 3 (for a total of two). Oversized luggage with external zippers and buckles should be checked to avoid their placement in lounge areas of the car. Luggage cannot be stored in the aisles of the car. So that you may fully enjoy the features of the SIERRA HOTEL we urge you to pack accordingly. Most long haul Amtrak® trains have baggage cars but we cannot guarantee our ability to check or guarantee the security of your luggage on Amtrak®. Luggage may be stored in lounge areas, but this obviously compromises the ability to fully enjoy the car.

Security procedures now require that all passengers have a valid passport or U.S. government issued identification throughout the trip. The names of all passengers must be provided no later than 12 hours before departure. If travel is into Canada, all U.S. citizens must provide proof of citizenship or valid passport.
